iMIS staff were great about communicating with our staff about the implementation of upgrades and how they might affect us or our members. Each time we did an upgrade, we were told what would be changing, how these changes would make things better overall, and how long we should expect to not be able to use the system temporarily. Also the new iMIS content management allows staff to see an easy-to-understand dashboard of membership statistics in real time and the publishing of webpages is much faster than before.

Our company is currently using iMIS 20. We started using it about 2 1/2 years ago. We rely heavily on the automation capabilities iMIS 20 has. We use Task Centre to send out invoices on a nightly basis. We also use the past due automation to send emails to clients that are past due. We take full advantage of having Rise integrated into iMIS and use that as our CMS for our website. And because it is integrated, we also use Webformz so that clients can request certificates of insurance through the website. It has been easy to navigate through different areas. Our reseller, AASG, is always really helpful when we need them and gets to us in a timely manner. It is also very customizable. We are able to add fields that we use in our system.

I have been working with iMIS for 12 years. If the system doesn't fit every one of your needs right out of the box, there is a lot of flexibility and there are multiple add-ons to fill any gaps. There is also the ability to create your own processes which makes the system even more user friendly. There is large support system with tech support and the users group. ASI did the original implementation and did a great job of listening to our needs and setting up everything to meet those needs. Great experience.

We've been an ASI client for almost 2 decades. We've been using iMIS 10 for more than a decade. While it's easy to hammer this tool because of its age, it was useful enough for its time. We have been able to run our business with it for a long time - probably longer than we should have. But the initial chatter about iMIS 15 was not encouraging, so we held back on updating the AMS and focused on other critical projects ( a new CMS, etc.)

ASI fell short with the integration of its public views and application. I don't find it very flexible to meet our ever changing needs. It seems you need a 3rd party plugin to enhance the functionality.

iMIS has proven difficult for our staff in terms of getting data out without having to go to a 3rd party vendor to set up reports. This may have been our own fault for creating custom fields and tables when we didn't have to. Many users find IQA to be a "cockpit" and not user friendly but I do feel like it is useful for those more comfortable with setting up reports and thinking about how data is stored. My recommendation depends on improvements in iMIS 20. I hear many great things about it and am currently researching the updates.

iMIS does some things fairly well (events, AR) but the business model seems to require expensive consulting for any degree of complexity. Sometimes even seemingly incremental updates risk breaking customizations, requiring additional expensive consulting work. With that said, there are few competitors in the market, and the difficulty, expense, and uncertainty of migrating to a new system make it difficult for clients to seriously consider leaving, and despite any shortcomings it is still probably as good or better than most other AMS providers.

We upgraded to iMIS20 in 11/13. Since then we are still finding issue with the upgrade. We have had alot of customization done with this upgrade that we already had in place with the old version of iMIS. This took alot of your time and money to implement. I believe this should have already been included with the upgrade. We were told registrants would be able to edit their registration after they registered if they needed to with iMIS20 and that to date has not happened. Adding new accounts thru the website had to be totally customized and we are still finding issue with this. iMIS20 meets our needs and we have been using iMIS for several years now so decided to keep using it and going with the recommended upgrades. I just wish we new about all of the issues we were going to encounter before the upgrade was done so we were more prepared.

iMIS is a great AMS but sometimes the need for customization does not justify the cost to do so. What many staff members think of as "should be routine" is not for some reason. But all in all it has saved us money and staff. We have been using iMIS since version 4 and it has proven itself to be robust and reliable. Our reseller is much more responsive than ASI it seems.

While iMIS can be pricey from year to year when renewing licenses and such (3rd party add-ons) , I think the reliability of the back-end coding is what sets it apart. While not perfect it's a more stable product than some of it's closest competitors. Having been a dbase developer & working with a number of platforms and AMS's I think iMIS over the years has been a solid rock. For example when they upgrade or make a fix you don't have to worry too much about how it's going to affect your customizations. They've stayed true to there coding over the years & haven't tried to be all things to all customers. Once the end user(s) get's the system they are pretty much happy go lucky & aren't hesitant to use it. I'm really referring to the power users, the casual user will tend to back off & not want to deal with the nuances of the system but tend to have that "Oh" moment when reminded of the process. One of the things that users tend to stay away from are IQA's this is ASI's attempt to get a report writer in place. It's not very useful for the end users as they get confused, frustrated and don't use it. Quite frankly as a report writer I tend to use SSRS or Crystal reports rather than IQA's. Overall I still prefer to work with iMIS than some of the others.

I've been an iMIS user for 10 years and have worked with versions from 10 - 20 and are using the RiSE platform for our website. You come to expect that ASI is just a software provider and for no one will their system work out of the box. You will be required to spend a small fortune on consultants or hire a small army of competent database and web developers to make this work as the demos show. ASI has is in a perpetual development mode and releases updates without resolving issues from prior releases. New releases introduce defects that were resolved in a previous release. If you use their CMS be prepared to re-customize everything after an incremental upgrade.

The functionality of iMIS 10 has fallen so much that you cannot even utilize it to update the web site it you have current software. You have to use IE that is way out of date. It also crashes during times of high registrations, such as when early bird rates expire for an event. To update a report or fix an issue is amazingly expensive.

While iMIS is one of the most influential AMS systems out there, it is not for the weak at heart. It is touted as the CRM system that you don't need a IT person on staff to handle and that may be true if you use the program out of the box with no need for customization's or custom reports or anything outside of its core function, you may be OK but once you start looking at customization's, you reach a new level of the program that needs additional support staff and help. There are many limitations to the program. For one, it is not web based. They are working on that but the first real version that has been put out for this was put out in version 20 and that is not functional to replace the desktop model and most of your staff will still need to reside in the desktop model unless they are just going in to see records. The helpdesk for responses is up and down. Sometimes you'll get a quick response but most times that response will take more time than you have and many times you'll be asking for something that you'll be told iMIS out of the box cannot handle or support. The program is also not an easy one to train on and it takes time to get used to it. There are many quirks to getting it to work and function to what an association needs and this is not cheap. When I say this is not cheap, I am not just talking about the licensing. You also need to keep in mind the equipment that is needed in the office to maintain this and the cost associated with that and then there is the cost associated with hosting it through ASI if you decide to go that route. You also need to look at the cost of an outside iMIS vendor who can support the program and this isn't as simple as calling your IT firm. The knowledge needed to support this reminds me of the ACT database system where you have to find dedicated support firms that specialize in the program who can properly help. The program is good for what it is but seems like for what you pay for it, it should be much more. I am on version 20.1.1.4 which was just recently upgraded from 15.2.15. We started on version 10 and have been on it for about 3 years now. There is no plan to move away from it due to the many resources and the money that has been sunk into getting this to work and while we are working and the program is doing what we need it to do now, it is a constant work in progress and a constant need for attention.

Our experience with IMIS is that it is a highly capable system that requires a significant amount of resources - in personnel and budget, to make the most of it. As a small staff, without a dedicated IT person, IMIS requires us to be highly dependent upon our reseller for technical support, at a high cost.

Our association recognizes that the iMIS 10 build of iMIS is outdated, however, the cost of renewing the license over the years has been unjustifiable given tough financial times. We now find ourselves with a significantly outdated system that does not integrate with newer technologies, does not provide a sophisticated (or pretty) web interface, and just barely allows for basic accounting and payment batch processing.
